DESCRIPTION:The Bolton Hill Garden Club is sponsoring a program that focuses on preserving and expanding Baltimore’s tree canopy. Enhancing Baltimore’s tree canopy is essential for a host of reasons\, including environmental protection\, public health\, and crime reduction. A panel of experts will focus on this issue\, and in particular on the preservation of Gwynns Falls Leakin Park. There are numerous opportunities for making the city a greener place\, and this is a great opportunity to learn about them. Here are the details: \nPanel Discussion of Efforts to Preserve & Improve Baltimore’s Tree Canopy\nDate: Thursday\, May 19th\nTime: 8:00 p.m.\nLocation: Memorial Episcopal Church\, Farnham Hall (enter red door on Lafayette and walk up stairs or take elevator to second floor)\nSpeakers: Joan Maloof\, Founder and Executive Director of the Old-Growth Forest Network\, https://www.oldgrowthforest.net/\nJill Jonnes\, author\, Baltimore City Coordinator of the Old-Growth Forest Network\, and founder of the Baltimore Tree Trust\nSarah Lord\, Friends of Gwynns Falls Leakin Park\, former President\, Baltimore City Forest Conservancy District Board \nIn this talk and discussion by a national forest preservationist (Maloof) and two local forest preservationists (Jonnes and Lord) and a Bolton Hill neighbor (Lord)\, we will learn about the national Old-Growth Forest Network\, and the goal of including Baltimore’s Gwynns Falls Leakin Park in the Network. Come and celebrate this special urban forest that covers close to 1\,000 acres. Together we will discuss how to keep it standing for future generations\, and how to preserve and increase the tree canopy throughout Baltimore City. \n
