SUMMARY:Party with a Purpose: Celebrating Black History Month with Poetry
DESCRIPTION:Live at Memorial Episcopal and online! \nJoin with neighbors in the 21217 community for the Sixth Annual Black History Month Party Sunday\, February 20\, from 3-5 pm. Hosted by BHCA’s Social Action Task Force (SATF)\, this “Party with a Purpose” celebrates the writings of Black authors. This year’s featured guests are Wide Angle Youth Media\, and the Lillie Carroll Jackson Civil Rights Museum on Eutaw St. at Lafayette. Plus\, the three incredible poets from last year will be back: Black Chakra\, Mecca\, and Lady Brion. \n \n \nNew for 2022\, the program will include live music by duo Dan & Claudia Zanes (photo above)\, and following tradition\, neighbor Dan Palmer will keep everything running smoothly as Master of Ceremonies. \nIt’s a hybrid event\, meaning you can either attend in-person or online. Guests wearing face masks can attend the live show in the main sanctuary of Memorial Episcopal Church\, 1407 Bolton Street. The sanctuary can easily seat 80-100 people safely socially distanced. Plus\, the Party will be broadcast live via Zoom\, so you can choose to watch online from the comfort of your home. \nWhether online or in person\, attendance is free. For online attendance\, register in advance HERE to receive the Zoom link. Or\, just come to the church to attend the live party.\n \nYou can sign up to read a poem or other writing by a Black author. There are only a few slots available in the two-hour program\, with readers selected by a drawing. However\, all poems and their nominees will be included in the final program notes for the event. Click HERE to sign up to read a work of your choice!\n \nThese parties run on donations\, with ALL the money shared between the two non-profits and the poets. Please consider donating generously online through the BHCA website here\, and select “Social Action Task Force” from the “What would you like your donation to support?” dropdown menu.\nHosted by the BHCA Social Action Task Force\, which promotes and raises funds for local non-profits doing great work. To get involved with the SATF\, email satf@boltonhillmd.org. \n
