BHCA will kick off free winter concerts at Corpus Christi starting Feb. 25

The Pinkie Pickers

BHCA and the Archdiocese of Baltimore will cohost three winter concerts at the former Corpus Christi Catholic Church, now known as The Basilica Oratory at Corpus Christi. The first features a local band that plays old time and bluegrass music, the Pinkie Pickers, led by Bolton Hill resident Gabriel Fricks.

They’ll play from 6 to 8 p.m. on Feb. 25 at the church, West Lafayette at Mt. Royal avenues. Unlike last year’s performances, Andrew Lacovara, who oversees the facility, promises there will be heat inside. “Maybe we’ll pass the plate to pay the heating bill,” he joked.

On March 18 at 6 p.m., neighborhood resident and longtime organist James Harp will play a recital. Harp is well known in the Baltimore area as a pianist, organist, stage director, singer, composer, lecturer, writer and conductor. He holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the Peabody Conservatory of Music and has taught there.

Since 1983 he has served as organist for the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, and since 1987 has been the cantor (organist/choirmaster) for Baltimore’s historic St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, where he also serves as artistic director of the St. Cecilia Society Concert Series.

On April 22nd at 6:00 p.m. neighborhood resident and BSO French Horn player Gabrielle Finck will lead an ensemble of musicians. She has been associate principal horn player with the symphony since 2008.

A final concert is tentatively scheduled for May 6, with details TBD.
