A memorial service was held this month for June Carr, a longtime Bolton Hill resident and neighborhood advocate, who died in January at the age of 96. She was a native of England who first came to America as a child during the German blitz attacks on Britain.
“She was always very, very British and she was deeply interested in the affairs of the queen,” said Lynn Cripps, who knew her as an ardent tennis player and an early member of the Bolton Swim and Tennis Club.
“A proper English lady; she was self-effacing and very sweet,” recalled Merry Rogers, who knew Carr and her husband, Lou Carr. They married in 1964 and settled into a house on Bolton Street. Lou Carr died in 2012. The Baltimore Sun ran an extensive obituary on May 11.
