The Bolton Hill yard sale is this Saturday
The annual Bolton Hill Community Yard Sale – likely to be the biggest ever – takes place this Saturday, Sept. 19, 9 a.m.–2 p.m. with more than 30 sellers. It’s at the Park Avenue median between McMechen Avenue and Laurens Street. Additional sellers are welcome, but hurry! Spots are $40. Come shop and socialize with friends and neighbors.
Community Scholar partners with Midtown Academy, wants your help
They are looking for volunteer tutors for Midtown students in the 2nd-5th grades – especially professionals who want to give back to their community; retirees with time and life experience to share; and students looking for meaningful volunteer experience. BHCA welcomes new MICA students
MICA students are back in classes and in the neighborhood. On Aug. 22, Francine Marchese and Joe Piccinini represented BHCA at MICA’s New Student Orientation, welcoming Bolton Hill’s newest neighbors to the community. The event was part of MICA’s weeklong orientation programming for incoming undergraduate and graduate students.
The duo connected with more than 50 students, sharing how BHCA supports the neighborhood through community events, engagement, and communication. The conversations also offered a great opportunity to learn more about the newest members of the MICA community.
Students represented a wide range of creative interests and programs, with many focused on digital media and others pursuing fields ranging from photography to socially- and community-engaged art. Several were particularly interested in opportunities to showcase their work and showed enthusiasm for getting to know Bolton Hill. Students were excited to hear about neighborhood traditions like Festival on the Hill and other opportunities to engage with the community. For its part, MICA is continuing to celebrate its 200th anniversary, making it one of the country’s oldest continuously operating art schools.
You’re Invited to Baltimore Unity Hall’s first symposium
Baltimore Unity Hall is hosting a symposium, The Power of Place-Based Investment, on Friday, Sept. 25, at 9:00 am and wants you there!
The symposium will bring together community leaders, funders, and neighbors for a day of conversation about what happens when investment is rooted in place and in people. Come hear from engaging speakers and panelists, connect with others doing this work, tour our facility, and learn firsthand about our programs and the future vision for Unity Hall. A networking lunch, catered by the in-house team at Dukes Culinary Services, follows the program. Register at the Baltimore Unity Hall website.
BPD commissioner, other first responders attend annual crab feast
Organizers Lisa Summers, Chris Ryder, Christine Delise, Christopher Ryder [is this someone different from Chris Ryder?] and Barry Blumberg carried off another successful Bolton Hill Crab Feast and salute to first-responders in August. About 42 guests of honor representing the Baltimore Police Department (Commissioner Worley was here again), firefighters from the Smokestack Hardy station on McMechan, Midtown crews, and DPW. New this year were the state troopers who are patrolling North Avenue from Thursday to Sunday.
Summers extended thanks to all other volunteers and “the neighbors who came out (and donated) to keep this great tradition going! It is truly one of the things that makes Bolton Hill such a great place to live.”
