Safer Baltimore for Pedestrians and Bicyclists

This fall, the Center for Social Design is partnering with Maryland Department of Transportation’s Motor Vehicle Administration Maryland Highway Safety Office, as well as pedestrians, bicyclists, and other community stakeholders, to better understand the barriers to pedestrian and bicyclist safety in Baltimore.

Through a Practice-Based Studio, an interdisciplinary team of MICA students will be utilizing a human-centered and collaborative process to identify design opportunities for improved pedestrian and bicyclist safety.

MICA’S Center for Social Design is asking neighbors to attend workshops planned in November and December to provide their feedback. They would like to develop and design prototypes with the ultimate goal of creating a safer Baltimore for pedestrians and bicyclists. The project will focus on the areas immediately surrounding the MICA campus including Bolton Hill, Mount Royal, and North Avenue.
