Repair of sinkhole to take months

If you frequent the north end of Bolton Hill, you may have notice that a large sinkhole has appeared in the Mt. Royal Elementary / Middle School playground. Due to the heavy rain over the past few weeks, the sinkhole grew, with another 20-40 cubic yards of material washed away.

Baltimore’s Department of Public Works is working closely with Mt. Royal Elementary/Middle, representatives from Baltimore City Public Schools, and City Councilman Eric Costello, and the contractor tasked with repairing the ruptured storm drain and filling the sinkhole.

As of this writing, an above-ground stormwater bypass pipe has been installed. Work on the site will continue outside of school hours (9am-3pm) through June 19, and all work should be completed by August 14. The security fence around the worksite will be secured at all times. Daily reports will be submitted by the contractor to the City to ensure accountability and oversight.

Questions should be directed to Principal Job Grotsky at Mt. Royal Elementary/Middle or to Councilman Costello.
