Kurt Schmoke – Baltimore’s mayor from 1987 to 1999 and currently the president of the century-old University of Baltimore – will speak at a BHCA Salon hosted by the Gray Panthers on Monday, Nov. 10 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Linden Park Apartments Community Room.
Nearly every autumn since 1965, Bolton Hill neighbors have gathered for an all-day celebration, our Festival on the Hill. Held in the 1300 block of Bolton Street and the 200 block of W. Lanvale Street, the festival offers food, crafts and activities for folks of all ages. It benefits those neighborhood organizations that sponsor booths. This year, the Oct. 4 event’s additional proceeds will support the neighborhood Arts in the Parks music program.

The mayor thinks Artscape downtown on Memorial Day weekend was a smashing success thanks to “visionary leadership.” Bolton Hill fans of the four-decades-old festival had a more nuanced reaction.
In honor of Pride Month and the 50th year Baltimore Shades of Pride celebration, Brown Memorial Presbyterian Church is hosting and supporting a range of free events, including a Queer and Christian book tour and a performance by a Christian drag queen.
One of the things I love about Bolton Hill is having the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) in our midst. The energy and creativity of our student neighbors, as well as the many opportunities to participate in MICA programs and events, add to the vitality of our neighborhood.
On Wed., April 23 from 6 to 7:30 p.m., enjoy an evening with Scott Shane, recently a reporter for the New York Times. We’ll meet in the Community Room at Linden Park Apartments, 301 McMechen St. Shane will be discussing the life and times of Thomas Smallwood, a freed slave from Maryland and shoemaker who lived in DC.
A rite of spring in Bolton Hill, the Bolton Hill Garden Club’s spring plant sale will take place on Saturday, April 19. It will be in Fitzgerald Park (corner of Bolton and Wilson Streets), from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. It will feature for purchase annuals, perennials, hanging baskets and herbs – also available for pre-order on the BHGC website in the lead-up weeks.
BHCA and its Gray Panthers Task Force will host a reception on Friday, Feb. 28, from 3 to 5 p.m. to honor some three dozen Bolton Hill residents who have lived in the neighborhood for 50 years or more.
Is that you in the picture? Well, perhaps it could be. Bolton Hill resident Reed Perry teaches free tai chi classes each Monday at 6:30 p.m. in Fellowship Hall at Brown Memorial Presbyterian Church – and neighbors are invited.
