BHCA to collect traffic data to nudge city to do more traffic-calming

BHCA’s transportation committee has acquired and installed Telraam sensors to monitor traffic electronically from two strategically located buildings on Laurens Street, with additional sitings planned for Lafayette Avenue and near Bolton Hill Nursery and MICA locations, according to committee member Sam Getchell.

The monitors are attached to the interior of a second-floor window, where they analyze passing traffic by vehicle type and speed.  Telraam networks also create a basis for dialogue between traffic planners, local authorities and the citizens who live on and use these streets, by turning traffic counting into an open and accessible citizen science project. See more at Telraam.net.

The committee is setting up an incident database to enable neighbors who witness dangerous driving incidents to record their findings. Incidents will be reported via a Google Form.

The transportation committee is looking for leads on attractive and affordable traffic calming planters to be used to narrow streets and slow passing vehicles. The committee also is setting up a “near miss” database to enable neighbors who witness dangerous driving. Residents with ideas or concerns about traffic control should contact transportation@boltonhillmd.org.
